Rachel Bess is known for her precise and theatrical oil paintings that blend historical techniques and traditional principles of portraiture, lighting and composition with contemporary and otherworldly props, poses, costumes and attitudes. Highly realistic and deeply informed by adventure and science fiction her work is at times surreal but always meticulous and compelling.

Rachel has taught at the Scottsdale Artists’ School, New School for the Arts and many other locations ranging from museums to dive bars and has numerous publications, grants, and awards. Rachel maintains a studio in Phoenix and shows in museums and galleries around the world and is represented by Lisa Sette Gallery.
